Belgian production company EML supplied the lighting, sound – and via E\T\C – large format projection to “Night of The Proms”, a high profile music and entertainment spectacular.
The show is currently celebrating its 20th anniversary in style, with 18 sold-out nights in Belgium’s largest arena, the 15,000 capacity Antwerp Sportpaleis, before touring to Holland, Germany and France.
“Night of the Proms” is an eclectic fusion of popular and classical music, featuring a full 72 piece orchestra and 50-strong choir, conducted by Robert Groslot, plus a series of soloists and special guests. The 2004 Antwerp line up includes Joe Cocker, Shaggy, John Miles and James Brown plus a 4-piece ‘house’ electric band and three backing vocalists.
The show, the brainchild of locally-based promoters Jan Van Esbroek and Jan Vereecke (PSE), this year passed it 5 million audience mark.
To celebrate 20 years of success, several important production changes were made, the main ones being the introduction of the additional visual component of projection, and a new layout for the stage.
Projection was first suggested by LD Geert Vanhout, who approached several companies for quotes, including E\T\C’s Ross Ashton. Vanhout specifically sought a creative collaborator as well as a company able to supply the hardware. Ashton came up with a winning combination - the most imaginative and exciting set of visual ideas and a competitive quote - and so was selected for the project. | Click on the pictures for the large version |
