Anglo-French large format projection specialists ETC Imagine exhibit at PLASA 2007, highlighting the unique products and services offered in this very specialist area of the entertainment industry.

The company has tuned to a fine art the techniques and skills required for high-impact large format video and film projections onto buildings, and all types of interesting surfaces and structures.

ETC provides the equipment (hire or sales), plus creative and technical expertise to realise multi-media shows of all types – from the concept and design of all elements through to the programming and delivery of the show. This can be either as a complete turn-key solution or developed in collaboration with a client and their design team.

At PLASA 07, ETC demonstrates its highly versatile proprietary control software – OnlyView. This deals practically and flexibly with all the major challenges of large format projection programming including complex masking and soft-edging of the images.

ETC has a vast stock of the brightest Barco and Christie video projectors on the market, and also the more traditional PIGI film/slide projectors.

The company has projected onto some of the most iconic buildings in the world including Buckingham Palace and Nelson’s Column in London, St George’s Hall in Liverpool, Edinburgh Castle, Scotland; The Taj Mahal Hotel in Mumbai, Dubai International Financial Centre, Malta’s Fort St Angelo in Valetta Harbour, the Château des Duc de Bretagne in Nantes and many more.

ETC has also provided large format projection solutions for some of the highest profile global events including the opening and closing ceremonies for the 2002 Manchester Commonwealth Games and the 2006 Doha Asian Games, the OC for the 2007 Gulf World Cup in Abu Dhabi, and the OC for last month’s African Games in Algiers.

Projection is an interesting and different way of transforming a surface – be it a building or a water screen – and a powerful alternative tool for imparting information to the public. It can be either static or moving and is ideal for all types of storytelling – incorporating a building, a city or a person’s history and relevance.

ETC will also be available to talk about its many permanent installations. Again there are many benefits to buildings ancient or modern in this context. It extends money-generating possibilities into the evening with a permanently installed show, or it can be used in a one-off context to highlight specific and special events or festivals.

Projection is also now an essential part of the growing trend for son et lumière shows that combine multi-visual elements like fireworks, lasers and lighting.
